Ruega por ella
A instalação Ruega por Ella, utiliza fotografias do meu arquivo de família e fotografias encontradas nos repositórios do Museum of Photographic Arts – MOPA e Metropolitan Museum of Art. Fundindo elementos da minha própria biografia com outras narrativas encontradas nesses repositórios, a instalação cria um espaço acentuado por um ponto de fuga onde o foco principal é a imagem de uma menina ao lado da mãe cujo olhar se dirige ao expectador. Essa foto de Gertrude Kasebier datada de 1899, é uma descrição dos ideais vitorianos de feminilidade e maternidade e tem como título ''Blessed art thou among women'' (Bendita sois vós entre as mulheres). “Ruega por ella“ é uma gravura de Goya da série Los Caprichos publicada em 1799.
The installation Ruega por Ella uses photographs from my family archive and photographs found in the repositories of the Museum of Photographic Arts - MOPA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Merging elements of my own biography with other narratives found in those repositories. The installation creates a space accentuated by a vanishing point where the main focus is the image of a girl next to the mother whose gaze goes to the viewer. This 1899 Gertrude Kasebier photo is a description of the Victorian ideals of femininity and motherhood and is entitled ''Blessed art thou among women". The image that gives title to the work is an engraving of Goya from the Los Caprichos series published in 1799.
